Blue Velvet 1986

This transmission begins with a pleasant Earth town: green lawns, clean sidewalks, and humans waving at each other. One male suffers a health failure while watering grass. The camera descends into the soil, where insects are engaged in violent struggle. This is not subtle.

Shortly after, a younger male discovers a severed human ear in a field. Instead of alerting authorities and disengaging, he chooses to conduct his own investigation. This leads him into a sequence of bad decisions involving disguises, surveillance, and hiding in closets.

He becomes entangled with a female singer who performs in nightclubs and lives in a constant state of emotional instability. She is being controlled by a violent male named Frank, who exhibits erratic speech patterns, unpredictable aggression, and frequent inhalation of gas from an unmarked container. Frank’s behavior may qualify him as a subcategory of human or a test subject who escaped containment.

The younger male continues his investigation, even after being assaulted and threatened. He becomes romantically involved with the singer while maintaining a connection with another female who represents safety. He seems unable to reconcile these paths, and does not try very hard to do so.

By the end, crimes are exposed, threats are eliminated, and life returns to normal. Birds chirp again. The grass is watered. The insects remain underground, waiting.

Conclusion: Humans enjoy pretending their environments are peaceful, even when violence is just below the surface. They will investigate danger out of curiosity, then form emotional bonds with the instability they uncover. They call this growth.

If Nebulon intends to infiltrate Earth societies, pleasant suburbs may offer the best entry point. No one expects evil where flowers are planted.
